Don't need 56-inch chest to run India: Priyanka

Raebareli, Apr 27 (IBNS): Taking a dig at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Sunday said a 56-inch chest is not required to lead India.
"A 56-inch chest is not needed to run India, a big heart is required to run it. To run this country, cruel force of power is not needed, but moral strength is needed," she said while addressing a rally in Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh.

This comes after Modi had used the 56-inch chest remark during an election rally in Gorakhpur while reacting to Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam's remark on turning UP into Gujarat.

"Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav), do you know the meaning of converting UP into Gujarat? It means 24-hour electricity, no power cut for 365 days in every village and street. You can't do it. You don't have the guts to turn UP into Gujarat. It takes a 56-inch chest," Modi had said.

Priyanka Gandhi further said this is the country of Mahatma Gandhi and people of all religions, including Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and Jains, who have have sacrificed their lives for earning its freedom.

"This is your country and you are its guard. This is my country and the blood which runs in my veins has mixed with its soil,"  she said, adding, "It your duty to protect the country and the 'dharma' of my family. So vote for this country and not just for development or Sonia Gandhi."
