Doors ajar but a Kolkata Metro train completes safe run

| @indiablooms | Aug 21, 2019, at 05:44 pm

Kolkata, Aug 21 (UNI) A Metro train today completed its full run from Dum Dum to Kabi Subhash safely despite the doors of a compartment remaining open.

Following a major technical snag during peak hours, the sliding doors of the third last compartment did not shut.

Eye witnesses said the driver initially refused to carry forward the journey at 1024 hours once he noticed the snag. The rake was packed to capacity and according to him the onward journey would have been hazardous.

But with the commuters showing resentment, the Metro Railway authorities at Dum Dum station immediately deployed armed RPF jawans in the faulty compartment and ran the rake after a 20-minute delay.

However, the 50-minute journey from north to south, covering around 23 km, took a longer time.

The rake would be taken to the car shed for repair, Metro Rail sources said.

Recently, the city's underground transit system faced huge criticism after a man died following an accident in the Park Street station. Since then the railways began intensive campaign asking passengers not to board trains while the sliding doors are being closed.
