Drugs worth Rs 42 crore seized along Assam-Manipur border, three held
Guwahati: Assam’s Kamrup district police had seized a huge quantity of drugs including 1.50 lakh Yaba tablets worth Rs 42 crore and arrested three inter-state drug peddlers.
Based on secret information, a team of Kamrup district police led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Kalyan Pathak had launched an operation at Jirighat area along Assam-Manipur order on April 13 night and seized 500 grams of heroin, 1.50 lakh Yaba tablets.
Hitesh Ch. Roy, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kamrup district said that, the consignment was supposed to send to Bangladesh via Guwahati and Bengal.
“We had seized 500 grams of heroin, 1.50 lakh Yaba tablets from a truck and arrested two persons hailing from Manipur. We had also arrested a person of West Bengal who came to receive the consignment. We have so far arrested three persons in connection with this,” Hitesh Ch. Roy said.
The arrested persons were identified as Fero Khan, Ilias Khan and both are hailing from Manipur and Saddam alias Saminul Hoque who is hailing from West Bengal’s Cooch Behar.
The senior police officer further said that, the value of the seized drugs is estimated at around Rs 42 crore in international market.
He also said that, the entire operation was supervised by Joint Commissioner of Police, Guwahati Partha Sarathi Mahanta.
