EC reschedules Tripura ADC polls due to Easter Sunday

| @indiablooms | Mar 14, 2021, at 02:47 am

Agartala/UNI: The State Election Commission has rescheduled the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) polls last night from April 4 to April 6 next following representations of several Christian organisations.

A Election Commission communique stated that the previously announced date of polling coincided with Easter Sunday - the feast day for Christians. The commission considered the demand and other administrative issues and decided to hold the polling on April 6 next instead of April 4.

The counting of votes will be done on April 10 instead of April 8, which was declared earlier.

However, all the schedule of pre-poll activities would remain same and a new council of ADC will be formed on or before April 16, the release stated.

“The casting of votes on April 4 would be inconvenient for a large section of the people, for whom this day has special significance, as the date coincides with the festival of Easter Sunday and has local importance,” the notification stated.
