ED issues fifth summon to Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi excise policy case

| @indiablooms | Jan 31, 2024, at 09:48 pm

The Enforcement Directorate ( ED) on Wednesday issued a fresh summons to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.

This is the fifth summon to the Aam Aadmi Party chief to join the investigation on February 2, sources told UNI.

The AAP chief has previously skipped four summons from the anti-corruption agency.

The fourth summon, issued to Kejriwal on January 13, asked him to depose before the central probe agency on January 18.

But Delhi Chief Minister had skipped it, calling it “illegal and politically motivated”.

He also questioned its timing just months before the Lok Sabha election.

The Chief Minister was earlier asked to depose before the ED on January 3, November 2 and December 21, 2023.

Kejriwal's name has been mentioned multiple times in chargesheets filed by the ED in the case.

The agency has said the accused were engaged in the preparation of the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.

The policy was subsequently scrapped and Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena recommended a CBI probe, following which the ED registered a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
