New Delhi/IBNS: The Election Commission of India (ECI) will on Tuesday announce the poll date for the upcoming Delhi assembly elections.

The poll body will announce the schedule at a press conference at 2 pm.

The Delhi assembly's term is set to expire on February 23.

In 2020, the elections to 70 seats in the national capital, which is ruled by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), were held on February 8 and the results were declared on 11th of the same month.

AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, who stepped down as the chief minister last year, is heavily campaigning for his party pitching in several beneficiary schemes for the residents of Delhi.

The AAP, which is aiming for a return to power for the third consecutive term, is banking on Mahila Samman Yojana and Sanjeevani Yojana.

Under the Mahila Samman Yojana, Kejriwal promises to grant Rs. 2,100 per month to all women residents of Delhi.

Apart from the women's scheme, which is prevalent in several Indian states in various forms, Kejriwal's Sanjeevani Yojana aims to provide free treatment to all Delhi residents aged 60 or more at private and government hospitals, in the run-up to the assembly elections in the union territory.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated a number of projects in Delhi just a few days ago, highlighted the Centre's Ayushman Bharat scheme which is now offering free treatment to all people aged 70 or more as a promise on part of Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP].

Like several other opposition-ruled states, the Ayushman Bharat scheme is not allowed to function by Delhi's AAP government, which is now headed by Atishi.

The Congress on Monday launched its 'Pyari Didi' scheme, which promises Rs. 2,500 per month to women residents of Delhi, as a counter to the ruling AAP's scheme.

The scheme was launched by Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar in presence of other key leaders including Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav.
