Eyes on 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Mamata's big Martyrs' Day rally today

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to set the tone of her party Trinamool Congress (TMC) for the upcoming Panchayat polls in her state and the next Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

The Martyrs' Day rally, which is the TMC's biggest political rally or an activity in its yearly schedule, is being held physically for the first time since the outbreak of Covid-19.

Banerjee, who stormed back to power decimating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2021, is aiming to expand nationally keeping its footprints in neighbouring states Tripura, Assam and also Goa.

However, the party's initial adventures in those states were nothing substantial to be remembered.

Besides, Banerjee is expected to speak on the Presidential poll, whose results will be declared Thursday.

Her position on the Vice Presidential poll is also closely watched as the TMC has maintained a neutral position so far on the issue.

Banerjee will hold a meeting of her MPs at 4 pm Thursday at her Kalighat residence to chalk out the strategy for the Vice Presidential poll, where her critique and former West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has been pitted by the BJP against Opposition, sans TMC and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), nominee Margaret Alva.

The rally will be held at Esplanade in downtown Kolkata.
