Farmers' problem bigger than nationalism: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra
Rae Bareli, May 3(UNI) Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his nationalism agenda, saying that farmers' problems are always bigger than nationalism.
"A person who calls himself as a chowkidar of the country, has forced all the farmers to become chowkidar of their own land due to menace of stray animals," she said.
Addressing a series of election meetings here in her mother Sonia Gandhi's constituency, Ms Vadra, accompanied by her son Rehan, said the Prime Minister was telling lies every day even as the farmers and common people are facing problems.
She also said that people of Rae Bareli and Amethi are very cautious about their leader and vote and will not support any person who will ditch them.
"Congress has always worked for the nation without any vested interest and even the people of Rae Bareli and Amethi are witness to the commitment of the party. But the BJP is trying to rake up nationalism just to insult the people. How can a person who is not supporting BJP ideology is anti-nationalist," she asked.
Ms Vadra further made it clear that her mother Sonia Gandhi has always cared for the people of Rae Bareli and did whatever was required to be done in the constituency.
"Rae Bareli and Amethi are our family and we treat the people of these constituency as our family members," she said.
However, commenting on the notice issued by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on the video in which children were shouting slogans against PM Modi, she said, " I had asked the children to stop chanting wrong slogans. But will respond to the notice as I am non-guilty on the matter."
"The video has been edited where I am asking the children not to raise such slogans," she said while claiming that she is also a mother of two children and know well what the children should say.
When asked about her playing with poisonous snakes on Thursday, Ms Vadra said that she is not afraid of snakes since her childhood and even her daughter plays with snakes.
