New Delhi: The Delhi Police has lodged an FIR in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) violence that erupted yesterday when two groups of students clashed over the alleged use of meat at the hostel mess amid Ram Navami celebrations.

The Delhi Police said it received a complaint from a group of students who are members of JNUSU, SFI, DSF, and AISA early Monday against unknown Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) students about the Kaveri hostel incident.

On the basis of the complaint, an FIR has been lodged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code. The probe is on to collect factual and scientific evidence and identify the culprits, said the police.

The students belonging to ABVP have also intimated to the police they will also lodge a formal complaint.

On receipt of the same appropriate legal action will be taken, said Delhi Police.

Over a dozen students of the JNU were injured during the clash between the right-wing ABVP and Left-leaning student unions.

The Left-leaning student activists claimed that ABVP students stopped residents inside JNU from having meat and they also threatened the mess security of the hostel.

The ABVP students alleged that there was no issue with non-vegetarian food and alleged that Left party supporters had a problem with the celebration of Ram Navmi.
