A massive fire engulfed the Hollong Tourist Lodge also known as Hollong Bungalow in north Bengal's Jaldapar area in Alipurduar district on Tuesday.

The British-era building situated outside the core area of the Jaldapara forest range, which is also amongst the most sought-after tourist destinations in Dooars, was gutted down.

This heritage bungalow has been a favorite travel spot for former chief minister Jyoti Basu and current office-holder Mamata Banerjee.

According to reports, the initial cause of the fire, which broke out around 9 PM on Tuesday has been determined to be a short circuit.

The fire brigade reached the spot at 10.10 PM, however, was unable to control the blaze.

No injury was reported.

The extent of damage to the property is not yet known.

The bungalow, located in the vicinity of the wilderness of Jaldapara National Forest was renovated in 2010.

This comes a day after the Kanchanjungha train accident in West Bengal's Darjeeling which took the lives of nine people and the number of injuries peaked at 30.
