Five killed in Sri Lanka blast were JDS leaders who belonged to Karnataka
Bengaluru, Apr 22 (UNI): Five of over 200 people killed in Lankan Easter Sunday Massacre were Janata Dal (Secular) leaders and hailed from various places in Karnataka State.
According to information received by the family members, the victims included Shivakumar, Hanumantharayappa, Rangappa, Ramesh and Lakshminarayana.
Immediately after first phase Polling on April 18 they had been to Sri Lanka and were supposed to return tomorrow.
Sources also said that three others also from Karnataka are stated to be missing and awaiting details from the External Affairs Ministry.
As the news spread about their death thousands of well wishers, MLAs are thronging to respective victims houses and trying to pacify the family members.
Former Prime Minister and JDS National President H D Devegowda, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy have condoled the deaths.
Kumaraswamy is in constant touch with the External Affairs Ministry for more details and about arrangements made for bringing the bodies of the dead to the State Capital.
Family members of Shivakumar said that "we are waiting for details from the External Affairs Ministry as to how death took place and when the bodies may be expected."
At least 215 people were killed and more than 450 injured after a series of eight bomb blasts ripped through hing-end hotels and churches holding Easter services in Colombo and other places in Sri Lanka.
