Gang-rape inside running Amritsar Mail: 2 accused arrested

Kolkata/Guwahati, Jan 3 (IBNS): Two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel jawans were arrested on Friday from Guwahati airport area for allegedly gang-raping a minor girl inside the Amritsar Mail, reports said.

According to reports, two jawans- Pankaj Kumar and Balak Kumar Yadav- have been booked under IPC section 376-D (Gang-rape) and Posco Act sections 4 and 6 from Guwahati airport.

They were taken to Kolkata and handed over to Howrah GRP on Saturday. The accused were produced in a local court and judge sent them to judicial custody for 14 days and directed for a Test Identification Parade (TI Parade).

A 14-year-old girl, who is a resident of Kolkata's Dumdum area, was allegedly gang-raped by three security force personnel inside a compartment, reserved for the Indian Army, in Punjab bound Amritsar Mail on last Dec 27.

After getting information, the Jharkhand GRP stopped the train at Madhupur station and rescued the girl in an unconscious state from the compartment and arrested one Army man named Manjrish Tripathi (40) on Sunday night.

However, Manjrish Tripathi was handed over to the Howrah GRP on last Tuesday and he is in police custody.

The Indian Army has condemned of the incident.
