Guwahati, Aug 31 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday inaugurated the permanent office building of the Commissionerate of Excise at HouseFed complex in Guwahati.
The office has been constructed using 13 thousand square feet area with all required amenities, involving construction cost of approximately Rs 4.51 crore.

Gogoi said that Assam has been on the path of progress and his government has taken several progressive steps to make the State self-reliant ever since it has come to power in 2001.

“Discounting all rumours  that the State is in financial mess and will not be in a position to pay the salaries. The state government through its own sources of revenue is in a better position to pay the salaries of its employees without any encumbrances,” Gogoi said.

Lauding the Excise Department for its role in generating a larger chunk of revenue for the Government, Gogoi said since its inception in 1944 the Commissionerate of Excise has been contributing its pie to the development of the State.

State Excise minister Ajit Singh while speaking on the occasion said that the Commissionerate over the years has increased its revenue collection considerably and is contributing to the State’s growth.

Commissioner of the Department Shamsher Singh, State Election Commissioner HN Bora, Chairman State anti-Drug Council Lily Rajbongshi and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
