Gogoi urges children to emulate the ideals of Pandit Nehru

Guwahati, Nov 14 (IBNS): Assam also joined with the rest of the country in celebrating the birth day of the first Prime Minister of the Nation Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru as ‘Children’s Day’ on Saturday where Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi called upon the children to emulate the ideals of Nehru who was an architect of modern India.

Attending a programme organised by Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) in the Guwahati, Gogoi called upon the children to emulate the ideals of Nehru who did so much to give the shape of today's India.

Wishing the children on this day, Gogoi said that the celebrations of the day give everybody an opportunity to work with more zeal and vigour for the rights, care and education of the children.

Terming Nehru a symbol of integration, Gogoi  said that he (Nehru) fought against British Imperialism and laid the foundation of a modern India with pluralism and diversity as the hallmarks of the country.

The Assam CM also interacted with the children and distributed confectionaries among them. The attraction of the day was cultural performance staged by the children of Sishu Sarathi and others which enthralled everybody present in the programme.

Gogoi also felicitated nine students for their achievements in different disciplines at national and international events.

State Education Minister Sarat Barkotoky also spoke on the occasion and Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, Principal Secretary Education Paban Kumar Borthakur, Commissioner and Secretary Elementary Education Preetom Saikia, Mission Director, RMSA R.C. Jain, Police Commissioner Mukesh Agarwal along with a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
