Kolkata/IBNS: Hours after the controversial "Goli Maro" (Shoot Them) slogan was heared in the heart of Kolkata amid Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to the city and a BJP rally, police on Sunday night lodged an FIR on suo moto basis, sources said.
According to sources in the city police, the suo moto FIR has been registered with New Market Police Station against 'unidentified' persons under multiple IPC sections.
Senior Kolkata Police officials said that they were examining footage of the incident to identify the persons who allegedly chanted the controversial slogan.
Earlier in the afternoon, few BJP supporters en route to Amit Shah's Shaheed Minar rally raised "Goli Maro" slogans at city's downtown Esplanade area.
On Feb 29 morning, Delhi Police had detained six persons for allegedly shouting "Goli Maro" slogan at crowded Rajeev Chawk metro station, just after the deadly communal violence over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest in north east parts of Delhi was brought under control.
Union Minister Anurag Thakur had first raised the "goli maro" slogan during the Delhi election campaign and drew flak for the hate speech.
