Gujarat assembly elections to be held in two phases in December

| @indiablooms | Nov 03, 2022, at 06:14 pm

The Gujarat assembly elections will be held in two phases in December, the Election Commission of India announced on Thursday.

The elections will be held on Dec 1 and 5.

The counting of votes will take place on Dec 8.

The ECI had announced the date for the Himachal Pradesh assembly elections last month.

Himachal will be voted in a single phase on Nov 12 and the counting of votes will take place on Dec 8.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will face a reelection in both the states.

The battle for Gujarat is set to be three-cornered as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is aggressively campaigning to oust the BJP, which is ruling Modi's homestate for close to three decades.

The Congress, which was close to a win in the 2017 assembly elections in the western state, is also fighting for its relevance in both the poll-bound states.
