Himachal Assembly: Congress demands discussion, Speaker disallows, party walks out
Shimla/UNI: The opposition Congress on Tuesday staged a walkout from the Himachal Pradesh state Assembly session following the decision of the Speaker to not allow grand-old party members to participate in the discussions.
As the Vidhan Sabha Speaker Vipin Singh Parmar allowed the Health and Family Welfare Minister Rajiv Sehjal's to reply over the COVID situation, the Congress party demanded that they too should be allowed to speak on the same issue.
Leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri said that since the Speaker allowed the minister to participate in the discussion, one of the opposition members should also be allowed to speak, and requested that the time of the session be extended after 1700 hrs, however, the requests fell on deaf ears.
The House was discussing on the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation under rule 67, adjourning the entire business which started on Monday.
Giving a reply on the discussion, the Health Minister said that an FIR has been lodged regarding irregularities in the purchases made by the Health Department on the basis of the State Vigilance probe.
He said that Health Department Director has been arrested and booked along with others who are involved in the case.
