Hizbul Mujahideen plans three major explosions in Assam, sends 12 youths for arms training in Pakistan
Guwahati, Sept 20 (IBNS): Hizbul Mujahideen, a Kashmiri separatist terrorist group, has planned three major explosions in Assam this year and has sent 12 Assam youths for arms training in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
It has been revealed by Qamar-uz-Zaman, who is a Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, arrested by the Lucknow Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) from Kanpur on Sept 12.
Qamar-uz-Zaman, originally hailing from Jamunamukh area in central Assam’s Hojai district is the same person whose photograph appeared in the social media with an AK-47 rifle as a Hizbul ultra.
During interrogation by the Uttar Pradesh police, Qamar-uz-Zaman revealed that, Hizbul Mujahideen has planned three major explosions at Lumding railway junction, Geeta Ashram in Hojai town and another area in Assam this year.
A top official of Assam police said that, the Kashmiri separatist terrorist group also planned to conduct recruitment drive in Assam and has sent at least 12 Assamese youths to Pakistan and Afghanistan for arms training.
“We have so far arrested seven persons including Qamar-uz-Zaman’s childhood friend 39-year-old Shahnawaz Alam, his elder brother Saiful Islam.
The terrorist group also tried to set up base camps in Assam and Meghalaya and procurement arms from Nagaland based arms dealer as well as separatist groups. A Jammu and Kashmir origin leader of Hizbul Mujahideen came to Assam few months back and held several meetings with some people and a religious preacher.
"The Hizbul Mujahideen leader had visited several areas of Assam and Meghalaya,” the top Assam cop said.
The Assam cop further said that, Qamar-uz-Zaman had visited Assam in August last and travelled few areas in Hojai, Nagaon, Karbi Anglong and Barpeta districts.
Qamar-uz-Zaman, who failed in his BA third year examination, went missing in 2017 until April 2018, but he had undergone training in Pakistan in 2017.
The top Assam cop said that, Qamar had taken arms training under ISIS and joined Hizbul Mujahideen.
Meanwhile, a team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) has already reached Hojai and is interrogating the seven suspected arrested till now.
