Ideologies of Nathuram Godse and Narendra Modi are same: Rahul Gandhi on Martyrs' Day

Wayanad/IBNS: Launching a scathing attack on his arch-rival Narendra Modi, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said the ideologies of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse and the Prime Minister are same.

Gandhi made the comment while addressing a rally at his Lok Sabha constituency Wayand in Kerala on the day when Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by Godse in 1948.

In his attack on Modi, Gandhi at Kalpetta said, "He (Narendra Modi) is so full of hatred and anger that he cannot even understand what India's strength is. The ideology is the same. Nathuram Godse and Narendra Modi believe in the same ideology. There is no difference except Narendra Modi does not have the guts to say he believes in Nathuram Godse.

When Nathuram Godse shot Mahatma Gandhi, he didn't look at his eyes because a liar and a coward can never look at the truth. And what else Narendra Modi has done?"

Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government and Modi of spreading hatred across the country, Gandhi said, "The idea (the idea of BJP and Modi) is very simple, divide India, spread hatred and then steal from India. Our duty is to fight their hatred, to confront them peacefully. We don’t believe in violence, we believe in love and affection and we'll defeat them with love and affection."

Prior to his address, Gandhi held "Save The Constitution" rally here in a protest against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), which aims to grant citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi but not Muslim refugees who came to India from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh before 2015, and National Register of Citizens (NRC).

"Indians are being made to prove that they are Indians. Who is Narendra Modi to decide if I am Indian? I know I am Indian, I don’t have to prove it to anybody. 1.3 billion Indians don’t have to prove they are Indians to these people," said the 49-year old politician.

Speaking about the Father of the Nation, Gandhi, the former Congress president, said, "Gandhiji was only interested in finding the truth. He didn't tell the British that I hate you. He told them that you are not aligned with the truth and Gandhiji defended the truth."
