IIT students, who went missing in Himachal Pradesh, rescued ; 500 people still stranded

Shimla, Sept 26 (IBNS) : About 50 IIT-students, stranded in Himachal Pradesh  have been rescued by Indian Air Force helicopters even as more than  500 people remain stuck in other areas in Lahaul and Spiti district, media reports said.
The death roll in Himachal Pradesh, hit by heavy rains  and snowfall in Lahaul and Spiti - has risen to 10 with four more deaths being reported on Tuesday, NDTV said.

A team of six trekkers from New Delhi and Shimla is missing in Kinnaur district, the report said quoting officials.  A rescue operation will be launched Wednesday.

The rescued students of IIT Roorkee had gone missing during their trek in Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul and Spiti district. However, they remained safe in Sissu area of Lahaul-Spiti.

The group had gone to the Hampta pass in Kullu and were supposed to return to Manali.

Heavy rains have triggered flash floods and landslides in the hill states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, killing at least 11 people on Monday. There were rains also in Punjab and Uttarakhand.

Around 378 roads have been closed.

Manali route has been cut off, report said.
