Kolkata/IBNS: A train was Sunday vandalised in West Bengal in a fresh violence over the controversy regarding now suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma's comment on Prophet Muhammed, media reports said.

A mob vandalised a local train in the Nadia district during a protest against Sharma's comment.

A railway official, as NDTV reported, said an unruly mob of 1,000 people pelted stones at the Lalgola-Ranaghat local train at Bethuadahari Railway Station in Nadia.

The Railway Police and other police personnel have been deployed on the spot to control the situation.

The incident occurred after the Howrah district of West Bengal witnessed widespread recurrent violence since Friday over the Prophet row.

West Bengal Police arrested more than 70 people from different parts of the state, including Howrah, in connection with the violent protests, ransacking, vandalism, arson and damage to the public property and attack on police personnel.

On Saturday, multiple crude bombs were recovered from Domjur's Salap area in Howrah where a violent protest was staged by Muslims yesterday over the prophet row.

Police said the protesters attacked the cops when they went to lift a blockade on the highway near the local bus stand in Murshidabad's Rejinagar that had been going on for nearly two hours. The cops had to fire tear gas shells to disperse the mob.
