India, Indonesia joint exercise terminates

New Delhi, Feb 21 (IBNS): Exercise Garuda Shakti-III, the 3rd exercise in the on going series of joint exercises between armies of India and Indonesia, was conducted at Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School in Vairengte, Mizoram from Feb 9 to Feb 21, officials said on Saturday.

The exercise aimed at building and promoting positive military to military relations between the armies of the two nations.

The scope included sharing experience in counter terrorism and conduct of joint counter insurgency training at platoon level aimed at neutralizing of terrorist threat.

Indian Army was represented by troops from an Indian Infantry Battalion and Special Forces unit while personnel from 432 Battalion Kostrad Infantry (Airborne) and Gp I & Gp II of the Special Forces represented the Indonesian contingent.

"The joint training was aimed at enhancing the knowledge of each other’s military experience, skills and techniques and thereby enhancing the aspect of interoperability and responsiveness to a common threat in the future," said a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence.

The Exercise will go a long way in further strengthening the historical and diplomatic ties between both the nations.
