Indian High Commission in Dhaka suspends visa operations
The Indian High Commission in Bangladesh has suspended its visa operations in view of the week-long strict lockdown enforced by Bangladesh government from Wednesday, Dhaka Tribune reported.
The High Commission made the announcement on Wednesday, hours after the Sheikh Hasina government began the lockdown and asked residents to remain at home except under mergency circumstances following the alarming spike in the Covid 19 cases in the country.
The Bangladesh government has shut all offices and public transport, including buses, trains, waterways, and flights, as the country registered its highest ever death toll, 96, on Wednesday.
The overall Covid death count has shot up to 9,987.
The High Commission had resumed its visa operations last October after keeping it suspended for more than six months after he Pandemic started.
The Indian visa application centres in Bangladesh were issuing visas under all categories except tourist visas.
In 2020, over 1.6 million visas were issued by the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh, the report said.
