Indian Navy sailor goes missing from ship, massive search launched to trace him

New Delhi: An Indian Navy sailor has been declared missing from a naval vessel since February 27, prompting a massive search operations to locate him.

The Western Naval Command, based in Mumbai, has said that the missing sailor is Sahil Verma and a thorough investigation has been launched through a high-level board to address this ‘unfortunate incident’.

"In an unfortunate incident, Sahil Verma, Seaman II, has been reported missing at sea from Indian Naval Ship whilst on deployment since 27 Feb 24.

"The Navy immediately launched a massive search operation with ships and aircraft, which is still continuing," it posted on X.

"Naval Board of Inquiry has been ordered for detailed investigations," it added.

According to reports, the circumstances surrounding his disappearance are still not known.
