Dhaka: Indian President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday arrived in Dhaka for his three-day state visit to attend the celebrations marking the golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s victory in its Liberations War and the closing of Mujib year.

President Kovind arrived at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:10 am aboard Air India flight AI1. He was welcomed by his Bangladesh counterpart Md Abdul Hamid.

Kovind is accompanied by his wife and daughter, Indian Education Minister, two Members of Parliament and Secretary of Foreign Affairs.

It is President Kovind’s first-ever trip to Bangladesh, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said.

"During the visit, the President will hold a delegation level meeting with the President of Bangladesh. Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina will call on the President," the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen will also call on him.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had paid a State Visit to Bangladesh from Mar 26 to 27, 2021 to join the celebrations of the golden jubilee of the independence of Bangladesh, the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and 50 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh.
