Indian woman killed in Pakistan firing along LoC

New Delhi, Jan 3 (IBNS) A woman was killed and nine others were injured in the cross-border firing by Pakistani troops since last night in Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir, even as Pakistan launched a counter campaign alleging that their soldiers were killed in firing from the Indian side.
Pakistani troops resorted to heavy mortar shelling targeting Indian villages and 13 border outposts.

Earlier, India complained about a ceasefire violation by Pakistan on new year's eve in which one BSF jawan was killed. The retaliatory firing from the Indian side left five Pakistani rangers dead till Friday.

Officials said about 300 civilians had been evacuated from the border villages which were under attack.

Yesterday, the  Adviser to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on National Security and Foreign Affairs sent a letter to the Minister of External Affairs, India, to lodge protest on the killing of 'two soldiers' of the Punjab Rangers in Zafarwal Sector. The Adviser in his letter lodged the Government of Pakistan’s strong protest with the Government of India, calling for an immediate investigation into the incident and bringing the perpetrators to account.

The Adviser’s letter was handed over to the Indian High Commissioner by the Foreign Secretary. Expressing concern at the way the incident had taken place, the Foreign Secretary of Pakistan underlined that the incident was not only in contravention to the rules of engagement, but also amounted to breach of trust of Pakistani soldiers in these mechanisms.

Meanwhile, surveillance has been mounted along the Gujarat coast and its border with Pakistan after a fishing boat from the neighbouring country blew up itself in the Arabain sea near Porbandar on new year's eve to evade possible capture by Indian Navy, even as Pakistan has rubbished the bomb boat theory.
