India's High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma meets Foreign Minister to discuss wide-ranging issues to further strengthen bilateral bonds

India's High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma on Tuesday called on Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud when he discussed wide-ranging issues that can further strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

"HC Pranay Verma paid a courtesy call on the new FM of Bangladesh H.E Hasan Mahmud on 15 Jan 2024 & conveyed greetings on behalf of India’s EAM. They discussed wide ranging issues to advance bilateral cooperation in the new term of the Bangladesh Govt," the official X page of the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh posted.

PM Sheikh Hasina and her Awami League returned to power in the country for the record fourth straight term after winning polls this month.

In the polls, Awami League clinched 223 seats.

The country's key opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its allies boycotted the polls.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted Hasina following her landslide victory in the polls.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke to his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina and congratulated her for the "historic" victory in the Parliamentary elections.

In a post on  X, PM Modi wrote: "Spoke to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and congratulated her on her victory for a historic fourth consecutive term in the Parliamentary elections."

PM Modi also congratulated the people of Bangladesh for the successful conduct of the elections.

He said, "We are committed to further strengthen our enduring and people-centric partnership with Bangladesh".
