New Delhi, Dec 17 (UNI) Days after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi triggered a major row with his comment - "My name is not Savarkar" on being asked to apologise for his 'Rape in India' remarks, BJP general secretary Ram Madhav on Tuesday released a letter by former PM Indira Gandhi where she has praised the role played by Veer Savarkar in the freedom struggle.

"Indira Gandhi's message on Savarkar's birth centenary," wrote Madhav attaching a copy of the original letter dated May 20, 1980.

In her letter to Pandit Bakhle, the then Secretary of the Swatantrayaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak, the late Prime Minister is said to have written - "I wish success to the plans to celebrate the birth centenary of this remarkable son of India".
