IT Madras student found hanging in hostel room

Chennai, Sept 22 (IBNS) A student of IIT Madras was found hanging in his hostel room on Monday, reports said.

The student, who was completing his master's degree, was said to be depressed after he failed to clear the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering to study abroad.

According to police, no suicide note has been found, say the police.

In a statement, IIT Madras said the student was an MTech scholar from Andhra Pradesh.

"At this time, we have no indication of the reason for death. The student's parents have been notified. The Institute offers its deepest condolences to the parents for the unfortunate and devastating loss," the institute's director said.
