IUML MLA questions government's free hand for spending from CM relief fund

Kozhikode/UNI: Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) MLA K M Shaji has questioned the governments' free hand for spending from Chief Minister Relief Fund.

Addressing the media here on Thursday the league MLA alleged that the Government had gifted Rs.25 lakh from the fund to settle a bank loan of an MLA in the ruling front. This is absolutely against the purpose of the fund, he said.

"The fund has also been diverted tomeet the legal cost involved in rescuing the Marxist leaders accused in many criminal cases", Shaji also alleged.

The critical remarks by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan against him in his Facebook post had provoked the League MLA.

Vijayan on Wednesday criticised Mr Shaji for accusing the Government of diverting the Distress Relief Fund for various political purposes.

The Chief Minister was responding to the FB post by the MLA accusing the Government of misappropriating money from the relief fund to pay the hefty fee of the advocates appearing for the CPI(M) criminals.

Meanwhile the IUML National General Secretary P K Kunhalikutty, MP, had urged the Chief Minister not to get agitated over questions about the utilization of the Relief Fund.

The way of presenting questions is part of the creativity of the person raising it. The support of the party to the Government in crisis time does not mean that nothing will be questioned, Kunhalikutty said.
