Jagan Reddy seeks Shah's help to soften PM Modi's heart on Spl Category Status

New Delhi, Jun 14 (UNI): Amid intense speculation of Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP inching closer to BJP, new Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister on Friday met Home Minister Amit Shah and sought his help to "soften Prime Minister's heart" on the issue of Special Category Status for the bifurcated state.

"Today I met Home Minister Amit Shahji to try and prevail on him on the issue of Special Category Status and sought his help to soften Prime Minister Narendra Modi's heart.... and will definitely raise it in tomorrow's NITI Aayog meeting,"  Reddy told reporters outside North Block.

To a question whether BJP has offered the post of Deputy Speaker in Lok Sabha to his party, YSRCP chief said the matter has not been discussed at all and it will be in the fairness of things not to speculate on these.

"There is nothing offered. We haven't asked and we haven't spoken on this. Neither did any proposal of that sort have come from any quarter. So please don't speculate," he said.

In a stunning performance in the recently concluded Parliamentary polls, YSRCP won as many as 22 seats in Lok Sabha out of 25 from the state.

After the elections in which his party was also voted to power in the state, Reddy met Prime Minister and when Modi arrived at Tirupati on June 9, the Chief Minister also accompanied him for the temple visit.

The first meeting of the NITI Aayog, since the formation of the new government in the centre, will take place on Saturday and the Andhra Chief Minister is expected to make a strong pitch for adequate financial assistance for his state.

It is worth mentioning that addressing a rally at Tirupati, Prime Minister Modi had assured the state government of all cooperation for development.
