Jagdeep Dhankar to visit Iran to pay condolences to late President Raisi

Indian Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar will visit Iran on Wednesday to attend official ceremony to pay condolences on the demise of President  Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Dr. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other Iranian officials in a helicopter crash.

"President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi have conveyed their condolences to the government and people of Iran. External Affairs Minister visited Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in New Delhi on 21 May 2024 to convey India’s condolences on the tragic loss. India is observing a day of national mourning on Tuesday, 21 May 2024," read a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Iran is holding a mass funeral for Raisi and other officials who died in the helicopter crash.

Raisi's followers took to the streets of Tehran to pay homage to him and other deceased persons.

Ayatollah Khamenei performed the prayers in a ceremony at the University of Tehran on Wednesday morning before a funeral procession in the capital city, reported IRNA news agency.

The Government of India declared one-day national mourning on May 21 as a mark of respect to Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi.
