Kolkata/UNI: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday dashed off a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, urging her to ensure "political neutrality of the police, enforce their accountability and desist transgressions of law and political errands."

In the letter, he said, "I am indeed astonished at your September 26 communication, major part of which is replication of role of Governor and issues connected thereto from your earlier communication Of May 02, 2020. Suffice on this for me to remind you of my deliberated stance in my communication dated May 4, 2020. "
"Sadly, Madam Chief Minister, you have chosen to take untenable alibi of Constitutional provisions, calling the Governor executive nominee, a mere spectator, to explain abdication of core police responsibilities by the DGP. This was least expected from you on such sensitive aspect. "
"As Governor I am neither a post office nor a 'rubber stamp'. I am stakeholder not in politics but surely in governance; to ensure it conforms to constitutionalism," he said.
