Srinagar/UNI: A drug peddler was arrested by police in north Kashmir district of Bandipora, a police spokesman said on Friday evening.

He said police established a checkpoint at Shadipora Sumbal and intercepted one person identified as Bilal Ahmad Rather, resident of Waskura Ganderbal.

During checking, police recovered 73 bottles of psychotropic substance Codeine Phosphate from him. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Sumbal.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Sumbal and investigation has been initiated.

"Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace," he said.
