Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police’s State Investigation Agency (SIA) on Saturday seized several properties of banned Jamaat-e- Islami, including a house in Srinagar, which was recorded in the name of late separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani, officials said.

Separatist leader Geelani died in September last year.

Geelani’s house in Barzulla area of Srinagar was seized days after District Magistrate (DM) Srinagar ordered sealing of three properties of Jamaat including a house recorded in the name of Syed Ali Geelani.

Officials said the Barzulla house was Jamaat property and was registered in Geelani's name.

In the ongoing crackdown against the Jamaat, SIA has seized several properties of the group.

SIA says it has identified as many as 188 properties of Jamaat and many of them have been seized.

The action against Jamaat is a result of investigation by the SIA Kashmir in a case registered against Jamaat in 2019 in police station Batamaloo Srinagar.
