Jammu and Kashmir: Two militants, 1 OGW killed in encounter with security forces in Awantipora

Srinagar/UNI: Two militants and an Over Ground Worker (OGW) were on Saturday killed in an encounter with security forces at Awantipora in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.

A police official said that following specific information about the presence of militants, a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K police, Army and CRPF at Goripora in Awantipora in the wee hours on Friday.

However, he said when security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons.

“The security forces retaliated ensuing in an encounter,” he said, adding two unidentified militants and a hardcore OGW were killed in the exchange of fire.

On Friday evening, two unidentified militants were killed in a brief encounter while they were trying to flee along with a policeman, who they had abducted minutes earlier from his residence in Kulgam. The policeman was also injured in the firing.
