Jammu: Two held with banned 1082 Chinese thread rolls
Jammu/UNI: Two persons have been arrested for allegedly possessing banned 1082 Chinese rolls, commonly known as gattu/manjha from Domana area here in the city outskirts on Monday.
A comprehensive and commendable strategy was initiated to check and book those indulging in sale of banned killer ‘gattu’ (Chinese kite flying thread) in violation of District Magistrate, Jammu order, police said.
Sensing the gravity of menace caused by ‘gattu’, the SDPO Domana Kosheen Koul constituted a team which carried series of crackdown in different areas under the jurisdiction of Police Station Domana.
The team headed by Station House Officer, Mahesh Sharma acting tough against the sale of banned synthetic threads(gattu) raided several shops on Sunday evening and arrested one person namely Manohar Lal of Lakshmipuram, Jammu and recovered four Rolls of Chinese Manjha/gattu from his possession.
During further investigation, a reliable input was received that a person namely Sahil Behal is dealing in the sale of gattu in the area and a naka was laid at Bantalab.
A car was stopped and during checking, 64 rolls of Manja/gattu were recovered and the driver identified as Sahil Behal of Bakshi Nagar, Jammu arrested.
On his further disclosure, further 1018 rolls of Chinese Manja/gattu have been recovered from a godown at Talab tillo Jammu.
A case has been registered and investigation is in progress.
Last week, a six-year-old child died after his throat got slit with Chinese thread triggering protest in the area demanding immediate ban on its sale.
