Gumla/UNI: Jharkhand Police have arrested all the five accused in the gangrape case of a class five student under Chainpur Police Station area of this district.

Three of the accused were nabbed on Monday while two others were nabbed on Tuesday, police said.

The incident had taken place on Saturday night when one of the alleged rapists asked the girl to accompany him to his house so that he could return her the music box he had borrowed from her. But, he took her to a jungle where he and his four friends raped her.

The girl reached her parents on Sunday and narrated the incident, after which a panchayat (village meeting with no legal backing) was held.

However, the panchayat asked the family to close the matter but the family remained adamant on filing the case.

After knowing about the incident the brother of the victim began a search for the alleged rapists, Chainpur SDPO Kuldeep Kumar said.

He managed to find two of them and tried to sever their heads and limbs, Kumar added.

The police were informed as a bloody scuffle broke out between the accused and the victim's brother, after which the entire incident came to the notice of the administration, Kumar said.

He said that the girl has been sent for medical examination while the two accused and the brother of the girl are undergoing treatment in hospital.

The family members of the victim have said that two of the accused had threatened them with dire consequences if they tried to register a case.

Outraged by the threat, her brother had attacked the duo and subsequently police was informed.
