J&K: Iconic journo Ved Basin dies
Jammu, Nov 6 (IBNS): Journalist, writer and social activist Ved Bhasin passed away at the age of 82 at his residence in Gandhi Nagar area of Jammu late on Thursdy night.
Born on May 1, 1929, Ved Bhasin was founder of daily Kashmir Times. He was not well for long time after suffering paralytic attack and was confined to wheel chair for his movement.
Bhasin is survived by his two daughters Dr Anju Bhas, Professor of Physics at the University of Jammu, Anuradha Bhasin Jamwal, senior journalist and Executive Editor `Kashmir Times’, son-in-law Prabodh Jamwal, Editor Kashmir Times and its other publications and grand-daughter Saba Jamwal.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, State Governor and other state cabinet ministers condoled the death of Ved Bhasin
Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has deeply condoled the sad demise of veteran journalist and Chairman, KT Group of Publications, Ved Bhasin, who passed away late last night in the winter capital.
In his condolence message, Mufti described the death of Ved Bhasin as a huge personal loss, adding he had been his close associate for decades.
“Ved Saab was a personal companion, whose friendship I always cherished. The void left behind by him will be very difficult to fill,” he added.
Governor of the state NN Vohra, recalled his interactions with Bhasin in the past many years and prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear their loss.
Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah wrote on micro blogging site Twitter about Bhasin: “He was passionate about India Pakistan ties, often sailing against the prevailing winds. Over the years, he mentored many young journalists. Heartfelt condolences to the family of Ved Bhasin. Also to those at Kashmir Times. Bhasin Sb remained true to his beliefs to the end.”
