Srinagar, Mar 26 (IBNS): In a significant development, the People's Democratic Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are likely to jointly meet Jammu and Kashmir governor NN Vohra on Saturday and stake claim for form the new government in the state, reports said.

According to reports, PDP's Mehbooba Mufti might become the  first woman chief minister of J&K.

The move will end an over two-month-long deadlock in the state.

After Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed passed away in New Delhi, the state was placed under Governor's Rule.

On Thursday, People's Democratic Party (PDP) unanimously elected Mehbooba Mufti as chief ministerial candidate, ending a prolonged impasse in Jammu and Kashmir.

BJP and PDP had joined hands last year after no party got a majority in state elections. The PDP is the largest party with 28 seats - now 27 following Sayeed’s death - in the 87-member house. The BJP is second with 25 seats.
