Kargil Vijay Diwas is a reminder of India's military capabilities, says PM Narendra Modi

New Delhi, Jul 26 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, while paying tribute to the martyrs of the Kargil War (1999) said that the day is a reminder of India's military capabilities and the sacrifices of the armed forces.

"Kargil Vijay Diwas reminds us of India’s military prowess & the great sacrifices our armed forces make while steadfastly keeping India safe," tweeted Prime Minister Modi.

"Remembering our brave soldiers who fought gallantly for the pride of our nation & the security of our citizens during the Kargil War," said the PM on Wednesday.

India has been observing Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26 for the past 18 years.

Union Minister for Finance, Corporate Affairs and Defence,  Arun Jaitley, who paid tributes to the martyrs at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India Gate in New Delhi on Wednesday morning, also met with the next of kin of battle casualties.

Tweeted Jaitley, " Salute to the valour of our soldiers on #KargilVijayDiwas."

Union Minister of State for Sill Development and Entrepreneurship tweeted, "On #KargilVijayDiwas, we salute India's brave soldiers who fought gallantly to protect our motherland and led us to victory."

Olympian Rajyavardhan Rathore, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting of the central government, who served as a commissioned officer in the Indian Army before retiring in 2013, tweeted, " Saluting our soldiers who prevailed agnst all odds & protected the nation.Their valor & sacrifice will alwys be remembered #KargilVijayDiwas."

It was on July 26, 1999, the Indian Army successfully regained command of outposts after 60 days of fighting, helping India regain possession in Kargil, according to media reports.

The digital media has been flooded with messages for the Kargil martyrs and the Indian armed forces on Wednesday to mark Kargil Vijay Diwas.
