New Delhi, July 27 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the victory in Kargil was a victory of India’s discipline and that of the bravery of its sons and daughters.

‘’Kargil victory was the victory of the bravery of our sons and daughters. It was the victory of India's strength & patience. It was the victory of India's sanctity and discipline. It was the victory of every Indian's expectations,’’ the PM said at a function to commemorate 20 years of Kargil war.

Describing the kargil martyrs as a source of inspiration for all Indians, the PM said,’’I laud those who defeated attempts to remove the Indian flag from Kargil. I also bow before the mother and sisters of these martyrs.

The tale of victory written in Kargil 20 years ago has been inspiring generations and will continue to inspire youth of the country.’’

Pointing out that ‘A government doesn't fight the wars, the country does’, the PM said,’’Governments come and go but the ones who do care about dying for the country, they remain in the hearts of the people.’’

PM said that in Kargil, India defeated Pakistan's treachery.

The PM said his victory to kargil 20 years ago was a pilgrimage for him.

‘’I had gone to Kargil 20 years ago when war was at its peak. The enemy was playing its games sitting on high peaks. It was like a pilgrimage site for me. Death was staring in the face yet our jawans carrying the Tricolour wanted to reach the valley before anyone,’’he said.

Stressing need for better integration of Army, Navy and the Indian Air Force, the PM said,’’today the wars have reached the space. Wars are fought even in the cyber world today. So, modernisation of defence forces is not only a necessity but also our priority. Modernisation should be the identity of our defence forces. Better integration of the Army, Navy and Air Force is needed.’’

The PM said that the need of the hour was for all the countries to come together against terrorism.

‘’The need of the hour is that all the countries come together against terrorism. Only then can terrorism be wiped out. The definition of war has changed today. Terrorism is challenging humanity today. There are countries that are using proxy wars as a political tool to meet their objectives, he said at the function that was also attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

The PM said that in the last five years, India had undertaken numerous important steps for welfare of our Jawans and their families.

'In the last 5 years, we have undertaken numerous important steps for welfare of our Jawans and their families,' the PM said.
