Karnataka agrees to release some water from Cauvery to Tamil Nadu
The apex court will hear the case on Tuesday.
The Supreme Court of India, in its latest directive on Monday regarding the sharing of Cauvery river water between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, has asked the latter to release the water as ordered and let the apex court know by Tuesday how much water has been released.
Karnataka, which saw a violent protest on the water-sharing issue, had claimed that sharing the water would jeopardise its own supply of water.
The Centre and Karnataka continue to debate on the formation of the Cauvery Management Board, media reported.
The Central government said the Supreme Court has no jurisdiction to direct it to constitute a Cauvery Management Board,
The ruling AIADMK from Tamil Nadu has claimed that the centre is eyeing the elections in Karnataka and that the centre should not play politics on this issue, media reported.
