Bengaluru, Jul 18 (IBNS): Karnataka Minister KJ George, who was allegedly accused of harassing a senior police officer MK Ganapathi a day before the latter committed suicide will be facing charges, according to media reports on Monday.

The police officer was found hanging from the ceiling of a lodge in Kodagu on July 7.

A local courton Monday  has ordered  that the minister will be charged with abetment to suicide based on a police complaint by Ganapathi's family, media reported.

MK Ganapathi, 51, who was the Deputy Superintendent of Police in Mangaluru, was being investigated on charges of corruption,

In an interview to a local TV channel he had said that KJ George, who was the state home minister at the time, was to be held responsible "if anything happened" to him, NDTV reported.

He had also also accused two senior officers of harassment. The local court on Monday has also ordered that FIR be registered against them.

Although the deceased officer's  father and brother have said that Ganapathy was being treated for depression, wife Paavani has supported her husband's version of events, media reported.

Chief minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah has sided with minister George though the opposition BJP and Janata Dal Secular  demanded the minister's resignation.
