Karnataka: Polling in Jayanagar constituency underway

| @indiablooms | Jun 11, 2018, at 12:14 pm

Bengaluru, Jun 11 (IBNS): Voting in Jayanagar constituency of Bengaluru in Karnataka is presently underway, media reports said.

The Jayanagar election was postponed after the death of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate BN Vijay Kumar just days before the state polls.

The state elections were held on May 12.

People of the state have meted out a fractured mandate with the BJP emerging as the single largest party with 104 seats.

Though the BJP had formed a minority state government under the leadership of BS Yeddyurappa, the latter resigned after the saffron outfit failed to prove majority in the Vidhan Soudha.

Despite fighting as opponents in the polls, the Congress and former Prime Minister Deve Gowda's Janata Dal (Secular) stitched a post-poll alliance to form a coalition government with the support of 117 MLAs.

Now the alliance has 118 seats following the Congress' victory in RR Nagar seat.

In Jayanagar, unlike in RR Nagar, the BJP is fighting a bipolar electoral battle with the Congress as the JD(S) has withdrawn its candidate.

The Jayanagar poll result will be declared on Wednesday.
