Kashmir: 12,000 people get first installment of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme in Rajouri

Rajouri: As many as 12,000 people can now dream to live in their own houses as they received the first installment of Rs 50,000 each in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme.

An official said they have set a target of reaching 100 percent people who need be benefitted from the scheme.

"We have set a target of 100 per cent coverage. To begin with, the first installment has been given to 12,000 people of the district," Sushil Kumar Khajuria, Assistant Commissioner Development of Rural Development department, Rajouri told ANI. 

"The PMAY initiative is supporting people here to build their own houses with the help of Jammu and Kashmir administration. It is a big relief for poor as they can live safely in Pukka houses," Khajuria said.

Panchayat officer Abdul Khabbir told ANI, "The orders issued by the Centre has given a push to the development here."

"Currently, the construction of 15 houses is underway. We are hoping to convert all the Kaccha houses into the Pucca ones in the next two years," Khabbir said.

He said after the first installment, people will also receive an additional amount of Rs 12,000 under SBM.

After receiving the first installment, one of the beneficiaries, Mohammad Razak told ANI: "The Jammu and Kashmir administration has supported us by giving money to construct concrete houses."
