Kashmir: Anantnag by-polls postponed to May 25 over violence

Srinagar, Apr 10 (IBNS): Anantnag by-polls in Kashmir which was about to take place on April 12 has been postponed to May 25, following the violence that erupted during elections in Srinagar a day back, media reports said on Monday.

The state government of Jammu and Kashmir earlier asked the Election Commission not to hold the election considering the situation of the state.

On Sunday, Srinagar Lok Sabha seat by-polls witnessed widespread violence leading to only 7% voting turnout, which is the lowest in nearly 30 years.

The election commission has rescheduled the election citing the reason of "constitutional obligation".

The result of the by-poll would come out on June 1.
