Srinagar, Nov 21 (IBNS): At least three Lashkar-e-Toiba militants, believed to be foreigners, have been killed in an encounter with security forces in Handwara of north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Tuesday, police said.

According to police, on specific inputs about presence of some militants hiding in the area, a joint team of Army, Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF launched a 'cordon-and-search' operation at Khar Mohalla in Magam Handwara early this morning.

As joint team of forces intensified the search operation, the militants hiding in the area opened fire, triggering off an encounter.

Three militants have been killed during the gunfight and the bodies of the slain individuals were recovered along with the arms and ammunition, police said.

Meanwhile, DGP SP Vaid hailed the forces for the successful operation in Handwara.

"Three LeT terrorists all Pakistanis neutralised in Magam area of Handwara district in North Kashmir. Excellent work!", DGP tweeted
