Kashmir: LeT commander among two militants killed in Anantnag encounter
Srinagar/UNI: Two Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants, including a commander, were killed by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the wee hours of Saturday.
Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said following specific information about presence of militants, a joint search operation was launched by troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir at Sangam in Anantnag district late last night.
'During the operation, an encounter ensued between militants hiding there and security forces,' Mr Singh told reporters during a press conference here.
He said two LeT militants were killed in the encounter. 'Bodies of both the militants and arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site,' he added.
The DGP said the slain militants have been identified as Naveed Ahmad Bhat and Aaqib Yasin Bhat, both residents of Kulgam. 'Naveed had joined militancy in 2018 and was involved in many attacks. As many as seven cases were registered against him for his involvement in attacks carried out by JeM,' he said.
Similarly, he said Aaqib had joined militancy in June 2019. 'One FIR is registered against him. We are also involved in many militancy-related cases,' he added.
