Kashmir situation completely contrary to what claimed by BJP government: Sitaram Yechury

New Delhi/Srinagar, Aug 31 (IBNS): Returning from Srinagar after meeting his party colleague Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami, CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechury said the ground reality of Jammu and Kashmir is completely contrary to what was claimed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, media reports said.

Yechury visited Jammu and Kashmir after the Supreme Court allowed him to go to the valley following the Centre's move to abrogate Articles 370 and 35A. Articles 370 and 35A used to provide special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

After returning, the CPI-M general secretary tweeted, "I am back from Srinagar after visiting Mohd Yousuf Tarigami. I will be submitting my affidavit to the Honourable Supreme Court."

Earlier, Yechury along with CPI leader D Raja were prevented from stepping outside Srinagar Airport by the Jammu and Kashmir administration.

Yechury was granted permission by the Supreme Court after he had filed a petition in the court.

The top court had said any citizen can visit Jammu and Kashmir but asked Yechury not to get involved into any political programmes.
